HOTEL LUX DADDY

Pompey lads Hotel Lux have been on a roll as of late. Having come a long way since their rough and ready debut 'Envoi', the forthright quintet's newest single 'Daddy' sees them teaming up with on-the-pulse indie label Big Score, who have already put out tracks by the likes of LICE, Pink Kink and Dead Pretties. Never ones to shy away from a bleak subject matter, their last single 'The Last Hangman' took inspiration from Albert Pierrepoint (the last official executioner of the UK), whilst 'Daddy' recounts a chilling tale that was much closer to home. Vocalist Lewis Duffin exposes locally infamous Paulsgrove Riots, which saw chaos on the streets in the early noughties, when a committed group of angry locals took it upon themselves to rid their neighbourhood of suspected paedophiles. Soundtracked by eerie synthesizers and spindly guitar lines with the help of HMLTD's Duc Peterman on production duties, 'Daddy' sets the scene for a band that are quickly becoming the musical equivalent of reading horror stories. Hotel Lux are currently on tour in Europe with buzzy punk heroes Shame and will return to their hometown for a slot at Portsmouth Psych Fest this weekend. -Holly Mullineaux
